■Key Revisions for Students Awarded after the Spring AY 2026 Recruitment

Revision of Student Categories Based on Background

Japanese Students, etc.

To alleviate financial concerns when Japanese students advance to doctoral programs, Research Incentive Funds (equivalent to living expenses) will be provided. Additionally, research funds supporting individual research activities will be provided to enable students to focus on research while independently selecting research topics based on free thinking.

International Students (Students with Status of Residence: Student)

Since international students come to Japan specifically to earn a Ph.D., Research Incentive Funds equivalent to living expenses will NOT be provided to them. However, to foster university research activities and improve the quality of students, Research Funds related to the research activities of individual international students will be provided.

Working Students [Newly Eligible]

(Students employed in jobs for the purpose of receiving salary or other regular income)
To foster university research activities and improve the quality of students, SPRING program newly provides Research Funds support for the individual research activities of working students.
