"Japanese Culture Week" Held

From January 16 (Tue) to 19 (Fri), 2024, The Office of International Exchange Support, Student Support Center, University of Tsukuba held the "Japanese Culture Week." This event was held to promote globalization on campus by introducing and experiencing Japanese New Year's culture to international students as well as promoting exchanges with Japanese students.

The events held during the "Japanese Culture Week" were as follows:

【Event】

GET RICE!: Free rice distribution event (Each 1 kg of ricepack were distributed to 1,265 students. Rice was grown by foreign trainees of JICA Tsukuba at T-PIRC of University of Tsukuba.)
Furumai-mochi: Mochi Pounding performance and Mochi Pounding experience (Pounded rice cakes were distributed to 200 foreign trainees and students for free.)
Brush Lettering Workshop: Brush letter art experience using brush pens
Craft workshop: Mizuhiki making, origami making, etc.
Kimono & Yukata dressing experience: Kimono & Yukata dressing experience for international students (advance reservation required)
Winter Bon LIVE!: Bon Dance Experience by Bon LIVE

【Cultural Experience Corner】

Calligraphy experience: Experience calligraphy by writing your favorite Japanese words.
New Year's Games: Experience Japanese New Year's games such as koma-mawashi, kendama, fukuwarai, and hagoita.

【Exhibition】

Ikebana exhibition: Flower Arrangement Exhibition by "Ikenobo" club
Calligraphy exhibition: New Year's calligraphy by "Toshogeidan" Art Group

【Booth】

JICA Tsukuba: Introduction of JICA programs
TSUKUBA-SHOP: Pop-up store for official goods from University of Tsukuba

A total of 1,577 students participated throughout the event. The Office of International Exchange Support, Student Support Center will continue to provide international exchange opportunities on campus.
