UT Student Selected for the 1st Quad Fellowship

The Quad Fellowship, the first-of-its-kind scholarship program designed to build ties among the next generation of scientists and technologists, was announced at the Japan - the United States - Australia - India Summit on September 24, 2021. KUSUMEGI Keigo, 2nd year student of Master's Program in Policy and Planning Sciences, Degree Programs in Systems and Information Engineering, Graduate School of Science and Technology, was selected as a 1st Quad fellow after screening of documents, expert review, and final-round panel interview among more than 3,200 applicants in 4 Quad nations.

This program sponsors 100 exceptional Japanese, American, Australian, and Indian master's and doctoral students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to study in the United States. Schmidt Futures, philanthropic venture, founded by Mr. Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, operates this program in consultation with non-governmental task force composed of academic, foreign policy, and private sector leaders from each Quad country.

Selected students are expected to develop each network of science and technology experts committed to advancing innovation and collaboration in the private, public, and academic sectors, in their own nations and among Quad countries, and also to build foundational understanding among Quad Fellows of one another's societies and cultures through cohort-wide trips and robust programming with each country's top scientists, technologists, and politicians.
