Tsukuba Area Emergency Disaster Drill of the University of Tsukuba for AY 2019

The Tsukuba Area Emergency Disaster Drill for AY 2019 was held at the University of Tsukuba on November 15. Students, faculty, and staff of the university participated in the drill. It was held on the assumption that an earthquake of intensity 6 lower happened in the city of Tsukuba. Evacuation guidance, transportation of injured people, and safety report to the university's emergency headquarter were included in the drill.

University staff in each department reported on their safety situation to the emergency headquarter during the drill. The emergency headquarter tried to grasp the safety situation as a whole throughout the university, including that of research centers away from Tsukuba Campus. In addition, training for carrying a patient on a stretcher was carried out at the Administration Center with support from the Tsukuba City Fire Department Sakura Division. They also learned how to set up assembly type portable toilets outside the building. After the drill Vice President Toshiyuki Inagaki (General Affairs and Human Resource Development) and an officer of the Tsukuba City Fire Department Sakura Division gave comments.

The University of Tsukuba intends to continue its effort to improve measures against sudden disasters such as earthquakes and fire based on the results obtained in this drill.
