Lecture on the University of Tsukuba and Latin America in an SD Workshop
Global Commons gave a Staff Development (SD) Workshop on February 6. It was held under the theme of "Latin America and the University of Tsukuba - Educational research and human resource development - ".
Professor Emeritus Shigeo Osonoi delivered a lecture that provided opportunities for the staff to get to know a history of Latin America and Japan, role played by the University of Tsukuba for developing experts of Latin America in Japan, and challenges for the future.
Professor Emeritus Shigeo Osonoi mentioned that Latin American countries have been maintaining a pro-Japanese and successful partnership with Japan, over two million Japanese descents played a wide role in the partnership, and that Modern Latin America is an important economic zone, and talked that the University of Tsukuba was reborn as a comprehensive university based on new educational concepts and has been leading Latin American research in Japan through the Special Research Project on Latin America and has been developing human resources for mainly academic and government service, in addition, reported that our university has promoted human resource development program through the Global Human Resource Development Program and the Inter-University Exchange Project (Latin America)adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and in the end concluded that we need greater attention to Latin America in the University of Tsukuba's international strategy.
A total of 30 participants eagerly listened to the lecture, and many of them commented: "I learned a lot from that"; "It was great to know the history from the establishment of the University of Tsukuba"; "I was able to deepen my knowledge of Latin America"; "I'm of the same opinion on the importance of area studies."
