On November 21 and 22, faculty members of the University of Tsukuba provided lectures for high school students in China, as part of the Kodai Renkei (High School-University Cooperation) activity. It was the fifth time to visit China for the Kodai Renkei activity. High school students in Shanghai High School, Shanghai East High School, the No.2 High School of East China Normal University, and Suzhou High School of Jiangsu Province had an opportunity to receive lectures.
Seven faculty members of the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Engineering, Information and Systems, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and two graduate students in the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences served as lecturers.
They first gave an overview of the University of Tsukuba. The faculty members then gave lectures in the fields of life and environmental sciences, medical science, and informatics. The high school students were divided into two groups in the afternoon. One group received a lecture in the field of informatics, and another received a lecture in humanities and social sciences. Both groups had an opportunity to receive a presentation from the graduate school students.
A research presentation session by Chinese high school students took place after their lectures. They then received advice from the faculty members and the graduate students on their presentations.
A consultation session was held at the end. It gave the Chinese high school students an opportunity to consult directly with the staff and the graduate students of the University of Tsukuba about academic matters.
On October 22, the faculty members of the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences and the graduate students visited the Suzhou High School of Jiangsu Province to give lectures.
The Kodai Renkei lectures gave a great opportunity for high school students in Shanghai and Suzhou to boost their interest in studying at the University of Tsukuba and other universities in Japan.
