The Special Needs Education School for the Mentally Challenged at Otsuka, University of Tsukuba is a special support school for children with intellectual disabilities, and is one of 11 laboratory schools affiliated with the university. In this project, our high school students will develop, manufacture, and sell goods, and vocational training (indoor and outdoor cleaning) will be conducted on the Tokyo campus.
Through this activity, the university and its affiliated school collaborate to create a chance for career education that the high school students with intellectual disabilities can gain experience of being helpful to others and making people happy.
By turning product sales and vocational training venues into inclusive exchanges that transcends age, gender, and occupation, we promote understanding and enlightenment of people with intellectual disabilities, and encourage students with intellectual disabilities to actively participate in society and culture.
